Acceptable Use Policy

1. Status

This Acceptable Use Policy forms an integral part of the Paste My Terms of Use and End User License Agreement and the Paste My Privacy Policy. Any breach of this policy is a material breach of those Terms. Where this policy and the Terms appear to conflict, the Terms control.

You accept this policy by downloading, installing, opening, accessing, purchasing or using Paste My, including any capability unlocked by an in-app purchase.

2. Intended use

Paste My is intended to support lawful, good-faith use: recording what you copy on your own Mac so that you can retrieve it, organising it, searching it, and converting clipboard content for your own purposes.

A use is permitted unless it falls within section 3, or otherwise violates the Terms, this policy, applicable law, or the rights of a third party.

3. Prohibited conduct

You must not use Paste My, and must not permit anyone else to use it on your behalf, in any of the following ways. This list is illustrative and not exhaustive.

  • Child sexual abuse material and child safety violations — absolute zero tolerance. You must not use Paste My to create, handle, process, conceal, prepare for distribution or distribute child sexual abuse material, or in furtherance of the sexual exploitation of a minor.
  • Unauthorised capture of other people's content. You must not install or configure Paste My on a device in order to record the clipboard activity of another person without their knowledge and consent. Paste My is a tool for your own clipboard.
  • Credential theft and unauthorised access. You must not use Paste My to collect, retain or exploit credentials, tokens, keys or one-time codes belonging to another person, or to gain unauthorised access to any account, device, network or system.
  • Unlawful handling of personal data. You must not use Paste My to process personal data in breach of applicable data-protection law, including where you are acting in a professional capacity and are responsible for that data.
  • Infringement. You must not use Paste My to reproduce or distribute content in breach of copyright, trade-mark, trade-secret, privacy, publicity or confidentiality rights.
  • Fraud, harassment and abuse. You must not use Paste My in furtherance of fraud, impersonation, stalking, harassment, threats, or the preparation of material intended to intimidate or endanger any person.
  • Malware and interference. You must not use Paste My to store, stage or distribute malicious code, or to interfere with the operation of any system.
  • Circumvention. You must not attempt to defeat, disable or work around the limits associated with your purchase, the protections that mask sensitive content, or any technical measure in the application.

4. Shared and managed devices

If a Mac is shared, everyone with access to your user account has access to whatever your clipboard history contains. Consider excluding applications you use for sensitive work, pausing while somebody else is using the device, and clearing your history when appropriate.

If you deploy Paste My on devices you administer for other people, you are responsible for informing them and for obtaining whatever consent applicable law requires. Configuring it to record a colleague's clipboard without their knowledge is prohibited under section 3.

5. What we can and cannot do about misuse

Paste My operates entirely on your Mac. We have no visibility into how it is used, no ability to inspect your content, and no means of monitoring or intercepting anything. That is a deliberate design choice and it is described in the Privacy Policy.

It follows that we cannot detect misuse and cannot suspend an individual user's content. What we can do is terminate the licence granted under the Terms, decline to provide support, report matters to a competent authority where we are lawfully required or permitted to do so, and cooperate with a lawful request from such an authority.

Reports of suspected misuse may be sent to help@pastemy.app. Please include enough detail for us to evaluate the report. We will consider every good-faith report, while noting the limits described above.

6. Consequences

A breach of this policy may result in termination of your licence under the Terms, activates the indemnity in the Terms, and is subject to the limitation of liability, governing-law and severability provisions of the Terms.

7. Changes

We may update this policy. The current version is always published here with its effective date. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance of it.
